A hunter who specializes in Fae shows up in Beacon Hills and is absolutely convinced that Stiles is a Fae because he
- Doesn't go by his real name
- Is surrounded by supernaturals at all times
- Sometimes uses magic
- Double-talks and bullshits his way out of everything
- Gets genuine Delight out of fucking with people
- Is exactly that kind of Petty
- Isn't above a bit of murder
- Is always down for Shenanigans
And a variety of other things that add up to Not Human. They refuse to believe that Stiles is and has always been human, and it's a running gag/subplot where they're just lurking around, trying to prove Stiles is a Fae with increasingly ridiculous and complicated schemes, like the most intense game of Mouse Trap ever, and Stiles continuously just manages to avoid them, which they take as proof he's gotta be a faerie because no way can an actual person Be That Way, and finally they get fed up and dig up Stiles's first name and calls him by it in front of everyone, so Stiles kneecaps them with his bat.
Hunter, on the ground: I don't understand, I thought knowing your true name would give me power.
Stiles: It does, it gives me the power to beat your ass.
A little help would be, ya know, helpful.

The first Sterek story, I could find on AO3, is There’s No Place Like Pack by chase_acow published 26.June 2011.
She wrote a whole bunch of stories back then and had already a premonition for Sterek being a Great Ship. :-)
Sterek became such a famous slash ship, that it got attention from the media and Queer community. Resulting in the hilarious fight between Sterek and Destiel from Supernatural.
Now Sterek has over 62.000 stories, with many wonderful classics for rereading! Mpreg and Alpha/Omega became really popular with this fandom.
